Rwandan Genocide Survivor
to speak on Healing and Forgiveness
On April 30, Rwandan genocide survivor, Denise Uwimana, will be at Anderson University to speak on the power of healing and forgiveness. Uwimana will first speak in Miller Chapel at 11 a.m. She will then be holding a Talk Back Lunch at 12 p.m. in Kane Dining Room. She will conclude her visit with a dialog and book signing in Miller Chapel at 6 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
Nearly 25 years have passed since the Rwandan genocide where at least 800,000 people were killed over the course of 100 days. Uwimana lost her husband to the genocide. However, she and her children survived. Since then, she has made it her mission to provide spiritual healing to her fellow survivors.
Uwimana wrote the book From Red Earth this year. It is about the story of the group of Tutsi widows who came together to heal and forgive during such a trivial time. “Being a believer did not spare me from tribulation, but my faith in Jesus remained firm,” she said in an interview with Christianity Today. “He showed me that he is with us in every situation, up to the final minute of life.”
