Great design inspirations can come from anywhere – family heirlooms, personal history, even moments we wish we could freeze and relive over and over again. That is exactly how I create beautiful, comfortable spaces for my clients. Using your unique story, your personal taste and your lifestyle I carve out an environment where lasting memories are made, preserved and celebrated.
I was just a young kid when my grandfather taught me woodworking. I still hear his voice in my head, reciting the motto all great craftsmen live by: “Measure twice. Cut once.” That motto saved me a lot of headaches. Thanks to my grandfather, a few basic skills and an eager imagination, I soon started creating and selling my creations to friends and neighbors.
As I grew, so did my curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit. If I encountered anything I didn’t know how to do, I would figure it out.
By the age of 16, I was already getting offers to design spaces for people. I couldn’t believe I was getting paid to do something I loved so much. (I still can’t believe it!)
Since 2005, I have served as the manager and designer for Gaither Family Resources, a busy store and coffee shop in Alexandria, Indiana. From inventory, to ever-changing seasonal displays, to huge special events, as well as artist and author signings, this experience has been transformational, as I have learned the business and art of running a successful retail establishment.
After studying art and business at Indiana University, my hobby evolved into a full-fledged dream job. I now own and operate EJS Designs, where I have the privilege of being invited into homes, businesses and special events that need a transformation.
More than a decade after I began designing and decorating, I found myself participating in a design collaboration for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra fundraising event and serving as a showroom designer for the Chicago Merchandise Mart. And those opportunities were just the beginning!
So often clients tell me they know what kind of atmosphere they want; they simply need help getting there. I love hearing that, because my goal is not only getting them there... but surpassing their wildest expectations. I hope you will give me the privilege of doing the same for you.
My personal mission is to design the ideal environment for the story you want to live.
