October 12, 2013 – Jupiter and Titan
We begin our 46th Season with an ASO premiere: Mahler Symphony. No.1, the “Titan”. This epic work engages a large orchestra of 85 musicians. The brass flourishes with soaring, lyrical passages, and an energetically charged final movement. We are very proud that the ASO performance of this work marks a high point in the development of our orchestra. The evening will begin with Mozart’s Symphony No. 41, nicknamed the “Jupiter Symphony”.
A pre-concert music talk will be presented by Dr. Christopher Holmes of the AU School of Music at 6:30 in the Marquee Room.
November 9, 2013 – The British are Coming: An English Music Celebration
Full of brilliant music, the concert includes the Edward Elgar Enigma Variations – among the most popular of works in the classical repertoire – and Benjamin Britten’s Gloriana Dances in conjunction with the centennial celebration of Britten’s birth at Anderson University. Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Oboe Concerto featuring our Principal Oboist, Aryn Sweeney, and two pieces from William Walton’s Henry V: Touch Her Soft Lips and Part and The Death of Falstaff will round out this evening’s Celebration of English music.
A pre-concert music talk will be presented by Dr. Christopher Holmes of the AU School of Music at 6:30 in the Marquee Room.
December 14, 2013 - A Symphony Christmas
There’s nothing better than the Anderson Symphony at Christmas. Enter the historic Paramount Theatre and step back in time to your childhood Christmas favorites. Highlights include White Christmas, Anderson’s Sleigh Ride, and of course the night wouldn’t be complete without our annual audience sing-along. Lots of traditional favorites and a few surprises!
February 15, 2014 – Sandi Patty, Valentine’s Concert
Five-Time Grammy Winner returns to the ASO for sweet and scintillating Valentine’s Concert. Sandi is an Indiana Historical Society Living Legend, and she has a deep history with Anderson and Maestro Sowers. Ms. Patty’s arrangements of popular American songs will keep you toe-tapping and humming all the way home. Mark your calendars and call your sweetie because this concert is not to be missed!
April 5, 2014 – Carmina Burana
Carl Orff’s famous Carmina Burana closes this epic season. Composed in 1935, this piece sets a collection of poems from the middle ages to fiercely powerful music. The opening and closing movements “O Fortuna” have been featured in countless movies and commercials but hearing the entire work will genuinely inspire you. Three professional vocalists and a chorus of over 100 will join the ASO.
A pre-concert music talk will be presented Dr. Christopher Holmes of the AU School of Music at 6:30 in the Marquee Room.
All Concerts begin at 7:30 pm at the Paramount Theatre.
