Why 'Leaning In' Will Make a Difference"\n\nHear facts and stories on how women are doing in Indiana and the US in both economics\, education and employment. Rep. Austin will present ideas and recommendations drawing on lessons from Sheryl Sandberg's book\, Lean In.\n\n\nState Representative Terri Austin (HD 36\, D-Anderson) was first elected to the Indiana General Assembly in 2002. She represents the City of Anderson and portions of Madison County. Recently elected to her seventh term\, Terri serves as the Democratic Caucus Whip and on numerous legislative committees. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Indiana State Museum and Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana. \n\n\n\nDuring her time in the House\, Rep. Austin has championed legislation to help improve the lives of Hoosiers and to advance the state's economic climate through transportation\, technology\, education\, small business\, and workforce development. She serves as a founder and co-chair of the bipartisan Small Business Caucus. She serves as a founding member and co-chair of the Indiana General Assembly Small Business Caucus. In 2014 she was recognized as a Champion of Small Business by the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce\, the latest of several awards honoring Rep. Austin for her work to protect small business from government intrusion and burdensome regulations. \n\n\n\nIn addition to her legislative responsibilities\, she has served as a full-time and Adjunct Professor of Education at Anderson University from 2003-2011. Prior to joining Anderson University\, she served as a classroom teacher and administrator for Anderson Community Schools for twenty years. \n\n\n\nTerri is married to Michael Austin\, an attorney in Anderson. They are the parents of two adult sons.
