Anderson Citywide Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Program
Members of the Anderson community are invited to join the City in celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 21, at the Paramount Theatre at noon. The guest speaker will be Pastor Ken Johnson, former Colt's chaplain. The citywide celebration will conclude with the annual Peace and Justice March from Paramount Theatre to Reardon Auditorium.
Anderson University will celebrate the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of service projects and opportunities for reflection and hands-on learning. Classes will be suspended for the day.
Amy Williams will be speaking at Reardon Auditorium on Jan. 20 at 4 p.m., Jan. 21 at 4:30 p.m., and Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. Williams is a 23-year youth ministry veteran. Her passion is to minister to teens involved in gangs, youth on probation/parole, and those lost in the criminal justice system.
The theme this year asks the question, “Why be an Ally?” The driving force of this message came from Dr. King, “…there comes a time when we must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right.”
